The Lion King Comes to the Home of the Panthers

Lions and warthogs and meerkats, Oh my!

The Knob Noster Middle School Summer Creative Experience presented a production of the smash Broadway hit The Lion King on June 22.  The class was led by Leesha Dunkeson, art teacher, and Don Gill, vocal music teacher.  Thirty-three students ranging from incoming 6th graders to outgoing 8th graders worked in both areas of visual arts and performing arts to put together this very entertaining production.  Oversized masks portraying the Lion King characters were featured props.  Students created these incredible masks out of cardboard and masking tape. Oohs and aahs filled the air as the curtains opened revealing the stunning set design created by these talented students and turned to squeals of delight as the parade of characters began to kick off the show.  As exciting as the artwork was, the crowd was equally wowed by the performance of the cast.  Several students were featured in solo, duet and small group performances of  "The Circle of Life", "Do You Feel the Love Tonight", "Hakuna Matata" and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight".  The gymnasium was filled with elementary students attending summer school as well as friends and family of the cast. All were obviously delighted by production as they congratulated the cast after the show.  These students should be very proud of a job well done!
