What Do School Counselors Do?
- Counsel students individually and/or in small groups to address needs and concerns.
- Provide classroom guidance to all students
- Respond to student needs in crisis situations
- Orient students to a new school setting
- Work with absentees, academic difficulties, and other at-risk behaviors
- Analyze test results to provide information about abilities, achievement, interests and needs
- Help with career plans by facilitating interest and value assessments
- Conduct conferences with parents and facilitate parent discussion groups
