What Do School Counselors Do?

• Counsel students individually and/or in small groups to address needs and concerns.
• Provide classroom guidance to all students
• Respond to student needs in crisis situations
• Orient students to a new school setting
• Work with absentees, academic difficulties, and other at-risk behaviors
• Analyze test results to provide information about abilities, achievement, interests and needs
• Help with career plans by facilitating interest and value assessments
• Conduct conferences with parents and facilitate parent discussion groups
